Government Strategy On Covid-19 Mirrors That Of Planning For Flu Pandemic

The Government's initial response to the Covid-19 outbreak in the UK was to claim that virus infection is similar to that of the annual influenza outbreaks the NHS has to cope with, and that symptoms are mostly mild!

Despite there being an exercise called Operation Cygnet in 2016 which clearly showed that the NHS would NOT cope with the demands of an international pandemic; the report was NEVER made public.

On the other hand following the ppandemic of 2009 of so-called 'Bird Flu', the strategy of how to deal with future influenza pandemics WAS published in 2011. It has been available via the Unionsafety E-Library ever since.

Baring in mind that the initial claims of the Government concerning the epidemiology and behaviour of the Covid-19 virus, is similar to that of the Flu, reading the 2011 report makes it clear that all Government actions, including the non-stock piling of PPE and ventilators as recommend by the original NERVTAG Report; are based on this 2011 report: UK Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Strategy.

These sections are very interesting indeed when read in relation to what is currently being enacted by the Government:

The initial response from the Government to the news that the Coronavirus has spread outside of China and was looking likely to become a pandemic, was to do nothing, despite their denials, they assumed as it says in the above paragraph from the 2011 that disruption and reduction of the spread would be only partially successful.

Their lack of real action until early March is evidence that no distinctive Coronavirus measures or planning had taken place, and that their so-called 3 phases of 'prevent' contain' and mitigate

But the most condemning evidence is provided by the Government's own Guidance document originally written in 2013, but updated in 2017, it blasts the current claims by Matt Hancock the current Health and Social Care Secretary and repeatedly by Ian Duncan Smith MP; that the Covid-19 is 'something we have never had to face before' and that it is 'unknown to have ever happened before'!

The Government's own document refers to previous pandemics, and what is to be EXPECTED from a new flu pandemic:

Clearly the above excerpt relates to a future Flu pandemic, but still remains pertinent simply because the Government started out by saying Covid-19 was similar to a flu pandemic which the NHS has to contend with in the UK every winter!

Whilst the daily briefings from the Government, repeatedly claims this is all new territory, and that it was unforeseen and they are guided by the 'best science' this document makes it perfectly clear that such statements are untrue, when one reads the above excerpt.

The reality is that the Government, KNOWS, that the final death total from Covid-19, could well be between 20,000 - which has already been reached - and 750,000 citizens of this country.

Given this, they certainly have no excuse for not having been prepared for a pandemic which was gripping half of the eastern hemisphere before reaching the UK!
